  • Broad Bean advice

Ok, not grown broad beans before so:

Mine are in large bag in GH - they're all flowering nicely but are 'falling over'
Should they have some sort of support?

I've looked at the Growing Guides but no mention of broad beans...

Apologies if this is already covered ... Thanks.

Yes they need some support - just plonk a cane in each corner of your bag and run string around them to keep them together.

I have Robin Hood for the first time this year and they are only supposed to get to 40 ish cm (about 15in)

The ones I've got growing are called Aquadulce (think!) and I've no idea on how tall they might grow to. At the mo they're about 3' (don't know what that is in metric - a metre??)

I'm growing Broad Bean Superaguadulce on the plot which were sown in November last year, tonight they were at the top of my head and I'm 6ft. Might need to think about nipping the tops off so I can still pick them within reach lol.

Don't nip the tops out unless they're getting too big to manage. Once you have bean pods forming (i.e. they've already flowered) you can pinch the tops off to discourage blackfly if you see them.
