  • Does anyone else do this .....?

When out grocery shopping, does the fact that one brand of, say yoghurt, is in a decent shape/size pot that can be re-used afterwards to sow/pot etc sway you to buy that one??

I do - the little papier-mâché tray thingies that sometimes supermarket apples are packaged in are brill for chitting potatoes!

The plastic cartons that mushrooms and grapes are packaged in, too are ideal for starting small quantities of seeds off in once filled with compost (need to make a few small holes in the bottom of some of them).

Onions, courgettes etc. sold in netting bags can be used to store other small quantities of veg ...

There's tons of other things - loo roll and kitchen roll inners,

Oh, and when I was sitting waiting for an appointment, the desk in front had this lovely bit of wooden framework - just the job to mark out the grids for SFG!!!

Not forgetting plastic pop bottles, cut in half for cloches!

I don't really look for recyclable items at the time of shopping but will often ponder just before they go in the bin.

Afraid to say I don't ! I do recycling stuff, but not for my use, gave nowhere to store bits and can't stand clutter!

I'm with BM - I eye it up before it goes near the recycling bin. Then spend 20 mins explaining to OH WHY I need to keep it

I don't do it with shopping, may start now though!

However, even though I don't have horses anymore whenever I'm driving or out and about I often look at hedges, ditches, fences and think 'ooh that would make a good jump'

                  Milk Bottles = plant labels
1 ltr bottles = small greenhouses.
                  Bottle caps = drainage systems
Yogurt, marg and bottle bottoms = seed planters.
                  Old C.D's = bird scarers

                  blah blah blah.

I don't buy specially for the trays etc, but I do save yoghurt pots, cream pots, and food trays, all winter.

Then at seed sowing time, I use my regular trays and pots

Then, during the first few sunny days in May I get the spring cleaning urge and thoroughly clean out the shed.......and chuck away into the recycle bin all those saved pots and cartons and trays....

Mr Pots doesn't put anything in the recycling box unless he's checked that I 'need' it

Or using a hot needle to perforate the lid for a fine flow watering bottle
it may be a struggle to reach the top, but once your over the hill your problems start.

I'm sure using different sized pots, in different colours etc. would really drive Deano nuts
