I like your idea of under planting squash etc though - great use of the space!

You should have seen the rigging I done when I tried outdoor toms - Heath Robinson would have been proud.

        It's quite simple really .

Stick a line of canes about 6" apart about 6" away from the centre of the bed (put them in loosly),

Next push a line of canes firmly in the edge of the bed. Tie a horizontal cane to the tops of these canes.

Bend over the first line of canes and tie to the horizontal cane.

Tie Diagonal canes across the end for extra sturdiness.

Repeat for other side of the bed.

Here's some stylised photos of when it was covered with beans and squash

I darn't ask either, thought you meant munter (don't ask) as it was going back to my teeenage days but was certain it couldn't be that as this is about growing things.

My long suffering better half made our wigwam for the climbing French beans and told me it was prettier with string round, so we have string! Lol

This is pretty much what mine should look like once I've done it this weekend - I can only access what will be the bean bed from one side (south side), so this works best for me, with DFBs along the front of the bed

I'm another munty afficionado. I have 3 now - 2 made for my 4ft wide beds (takes 10 strings so 20 bean plants) and one that's 7ft wide. I made them out of treated battens and they take up a lot less space than a teepee/wigwam, I am bad at wigwams...only the back frames up so far though.

Just getting the rest of the beans out this weekend, hurrah!

We did a simple wigwam with 4 8 ft canes for the runner beans as I only had 4 to plant out. I might use the suggestion of planting a second lot out a bit later for longer harvesting.

Made a simple frame for mangetout from 4 8 ft canes and one shorter one across top with netting clipped on for plants to cling to. Planted 28 round 3 sides of it and left one side for peas - if they germinate!

My beds are quite narrow and small so these seemed to work OK for space available.

LOVE growing food to eat in my little town back garden. Winter update: currently growing overwintering onions, carrots, lettuce, chard, salad leaves, kale, cabbage, radish, beetroot, garlic, broccoli raab, some herbs.
