Drain pipe wormery

I remember reading an article in the GYO magazine where Alys Fowler was making drainpipe wormeries to stand in big pots etc. Now I'm guessing it wasn't just a drainpipe with holes in. I've googled with no success. Please does anyone have any plans/links/ for these things and, possibly more importantly did anyone have any success with one?

I have a project underway which will be linked to SFG as well.

See I googled drain pipe wormery - just too literal. Thanks a million VC. So anyone using them successfully?

I came across them when reading about keyhole gardens but decided not to do it. Sorry not much help

Looks brilliant, but wouldn't the goodness stay just around the wormery. Surely the plants nearest it would take all the nutrients?

I think that's why they were in pots but on the link VC found there are people with them spread around their gardens. Presumably worms and other soil creatures will keep it moving around. My plan is to use them on the corners between four SFG squares.

Aren't they really just mini compost bins that you've got to protect from the cold and frost in winter? I suppose in a SFG it would give the plants almost direct nutrients, but in a regular garden, as Bal pointed out, only the closest plants are going to benefit. Two Sheds chop and drop idea seems easier to me, if you don't want to cart stuff to the compost bin.
Or am I missing the point?

Also, it will be SFG in a poly tunnel so I'm hoping the worms would be safe all winter even if they weren't working too hard. I reckon I have enough red worms in my muck pile not to need to buy in any others if I use them as a starter. The only thing I have against chop and drop is just how much it encourages slugs so I almost always compost.
