Just as I have some recently sown runner beans about ready to plant out I have noticed that a few of last years plants seem to be regrowing. Anyone else got any experience of regrowing them? Are they likely to be any better/worse than the fresh ones?

Thanks for the advice, the plants did really well and are still going. Just picked my first ever runner beans in November.
Just wondering if its worth me trying to protect them a bit to come back again next year? Also should I cut them down now as it looks like we might have the first frost in the next few days?Attached Files

I've just cut my runner beans down, this years & the previous years that acted like a perennial, although I've never had a runner bean plant come back for a third year, mine went black & rotted in it's third year but you can try, different varieties might be hardier etc I usually mulch over the root with the cut up plant remains, this gives a thickness. Its worth mulching over this years sowings, they'l have a stronger chance of growing next year depending on the weather this winter & mulch.Location : Essex

I noticed in the garden today that the runner bean roots I left in the ground from last year still look sturdy, firm, and alive. I'm hoping they'll grow up and save me the hassle of rearing plants from seed this year in my limited space. Never had them survive the winter before, but it has been so mild this time.Location - Leicestershire - Chisit-land
Endless wonder.
