Greenhouse vent openers - how hot?

One of my greenhouse vents is not opening and upon inspection the contents of the piston/ cylinder has leaked.

Mine failed a couple of weeks ago and I looked on Homeb@se and they had one on there
but before I bought it i placed my cylinder in the fridge for a couple of hours, then I reset the piston by pushing it hard against the paving and it has been ok so far (mine also looked like it had leaked).
