  • Cucumbers showing promise!!

Excuse the slightly pointless post, I'm just chuffed some of my veggies are starting to bear fruit for all my hard work and expense!

The first to show promise would be my cucumbers. I've pinched out the growing tips as they were starting to get a bit big for the space. Have 2 plants in the greenhouse and 2 outside.
I've easily a dozen on the 2 plants in the greenhouse, some about 3-4" long now, i cant believe how quickly they have grown!

Looking good TattyJ I've got some little ones too but my plants are much smaller than yours. Should I take them off or let things bee?

V jealous - most of mine failed so had to re-sow & only 2:inches high. Just hoping for anything really!

I'm by no means an expert, this is only my first year growing.
But I just left them be. The only interference was training them upwards and pinching out the tips when they got too big.

I did learn a valuable lesson though.... Don't leave it too long to tie them up, those little tentacles can be right tricky to untangle when they get hold of something!

Look good Tatty, nice colour on them.

I got told off, I started mine in the conservatory and probably sowed a bit too early, they started taking over and the tendrels were grabbing hold of the blinds

Every year I forget how fast they grow.

Mine are just about to start their journey up the new solvent weld pipe frame I made for them.. I can't wait for fruit last year I found Burpless to be prolific, and hoping for a repeat this year.

Looking great Tatty I've only got one plant and the cucumbers are only very tiny. I've got the burpless variety same as Cadalot - heard lots of good things about it.
LOVE growing food to eat in my little town back garden. Winter update: currently growing overwintering onions, carrots, lettuce, chard, salad leaves, kale, cabbage, radish, beetroot, garlic, broccoli raab, some herbs.

I've got Burpless, Carmen and Femspot. I've grown Burpless before and had lots of absolutely enormous cucumbers.

Weirdly, my early sown cucumber has just stopped at about a foot tall -- hardly grown in about three weeks. It has set a cuc though.

I have tried two sowings of marketmore and both have failed this year for some reason. last two years I had no problem getting them to germinate, tried old and new seed.

Mine are all Marketmore, I sowed 4 seeds and they all came up. I might have just got lucky though.

This morning they seem to have suddenly bloomed with loads of flowers! Wondering if giving them a feed last night might have been a bit overdue....

They look fab tatty! I sowed mine far too early, they took over the spare bedroom and with no chance of getting them outside I binned them. Their replacements are still teeny tiny but will hopefully catch up!

I only have this space for 3 marketmore plants and have just prepared the bed. The plants are healthy enough so should grow well.

I've sown 5 seeds this year:
2 Cucino, one in early April now producing huge numbers of little cucumbers in my friend's greenhouse (ate one at 2 inches long!) and one in late April now ready to pot up alongside its friend.
2 Vega in early May, one plant hardening off in my growhouse, the other failed to germinate.
1 Mini Munch at end of May to replace the above Vega - no sign of germination yet.

Judging by the number of flowers and mini fruit on the Cucino, the Vega and Mini Munch may be redundant anyway!
