Absolutely doing my head in this year!

The 3 overwintered Chillies are now succumbed with em no matter what I try, So not looking at all well, so thinking of giving up the ghost to be honest! Not the end of the world as I have sown new for my needs in the kitchen this comming year, but even these are getting well infected with the Bladdy things!

Had a read up, yellow sticky tapes, Squirting with soapy water, etc, etc, really not wanting to revert to chemical interception! But need to get these Beggers under control, never had it before, which is why my attention is being brought to the overwintered plants! Maybe the source

Any advise would be more than welcome! Coz as I say, They have me "Baffled"

Deano, you cold try an old method of keeping a greenhouse clear of whitefly, this was shredding rhubarb leaves and leaving them to ferment then place the liquid into saucers around the greenhouse, you wont smell it but apparently the whitefly can and is kept away

Can you find the larvae under the leaves & squash them before they become able to fly? French marigolds are good for keeping them away,the roots have something like a natural pesticide in them,that they don't want to breed near (I read that somewhere it seems true that they stay away from marigolds).

oh deano I'm sick of squashing whitefly too - I feel like a mass murderer.

I've removed leaves which are heavily infested and squash the rest - once you've squished them keep on top of it and you wont really have a problem. You just need to stop the newborns laying more eggs. You really do need to keep on top of it though. Its no fun.

I've tried spraying and sticky traps and nothing else seems to work

Had them all over some over wintered cannas. Just had to keep squishing them. They're outside now & not a trace!

I use borage in outdoor beds and homemade garlic spray in the stayput

Try horticultural oil this should vastly reduce your problem

I will say I have borage in my garden and I made garlic spray. I still have some whitefly. probably would be worse if I didn't have garlic though. I will try the rhubarb. I think mint crushed, especially the wild water type on the greenhouse floor could work (I hear) but for me they always seem to appear from the compost in pots. Even pots inside the kitchen where whitefly can't get in. I am sure they are in the compost we buy.

I think so too Marbs - all mine have been in the house and I've no idea where they've come from. Its a bit creepy really!!!

Not had as much bother this season as usual.
Used potting compost with stuff added by the manufacture and have marigolds and some climbers amongst the toms.
Makes the greenhouse look good with all the colour.
