We had about 20 on our very sluggy plot despite a combination of direct sown and pre chitting. Should have been well over 50. We now have about 7. They're deffo getting slugged.
On our less sluggy plot there's about 50 but still lots of gaps and still slug damage. 2nd sowing of carrots still no show. Ones in pots doing well despite a snail taking up residence in there.
I put some root parsley in that had been started in modules a few weeks ago. All gone.
This year has been awful so far.Last edited by Shadylane; 15-06-2016, 08:48 PM.

Parsnips are high on my "Fickle vegetables" list (below celeriac and cukes....). Last year sowed 30 stations got..... 5. BUT 5 large and very tasty ones This year sowed 30 stations got... 25 :O No idea why. I used to (as I have mild OCD) sow 3 seeds to each station, as recommended, and found it hit and miss. Now I liberally share the whole packet between the overall stations (so at least 6 or 7 to a station) and now get much better hit per station plus all seeds used up in the packet win-win
No idea where the slugs have gone but touch wood not seen so many this year, although this ranis probably bringing the blighters out

2013: sowed about 50, nowt came up; resowed, got a few weedy stragglers. Figured I'd sown too early, then too late.
2014: sowed about 50, got a great crop of at least 20 good big 'uns and quite a few little skinny ones. Great, I think, I've about cracked it!
2015: sowed about 50, same timing as 2014. 1 rubbish parsnip.
This year I think I've got 15 that look OK... We shall see.
They're fickle beasties.
