  • Dumb Pea Question

Sorry, this will sound completely dumb, but how do I know when a pea is ready to be picked?

I've got some Tom Thumb dwarf peas which are growing nicely and have pods on. Some of the pods are flat which clearly means they are not ready, some are starting to fill out and get plumper. But how will I know when they want picking? Does the plant give me some kind of sign!!!

A lot of these things I've just never seen grown before so I am a bit clueless.

To be honest it depends a bit on the variety as some are better smaller or larger. Also I find that some are sneaky things that look plump but have tiny peas inside. The easiest way is to pick a couple and have a look as that will give you a good idea. If you like what you see inside then pick all others that look the same.

Some of us live in the past, always talking about back then. Some of us live in the future, always planning what we are going to do. And, then there are those, who neither look behind or ahead, but just enjoy the moment of right now.

Which one are you and is it how you want to be?

Yep, giving them a good feel normally does the trick.

When I grew them I used to look through the pod with the sun in the background. You could usually see the size of the peas inside.

Great thank you for the suggestions. I don't mind the sound of taste testing And the trick to look through them with the sun is a good one.
