Good points Penellype. I've always been adamant I won't use pellets simply because of the damage they do to wildlife. But I may consider using them in this trap thingy I saw on another thread, involving a pop bottle. It supposedly stops the slugs from crawling off to poison the soil and other wildlife. Will try bran first though.

Still haven't decided about the nematodes. By the time I've ordered them and they've arrived I reckon the slugs will have finished most stuff off, but it might be worth it to save the spuds. Always get holey spuds- dread to think what they'll be like this year Thanks for the replies all

Some interesting plants that slugs don't like there. I must have mutant slugs. I bought a campanula for a place in my path that sometimes gets flooded (you may have seen my pictures) - it took the slugs 2 days to completely demolish it. I planted some florence fennel plants in my friend's veg garden - they were gone within a week.

I don't think I have ever seen so many slugs as this year being that the back is either water, concrete or slabs, I can usually keep them down by treating the boarder lines. Not this year today I moved every movable container I have and killed at least 20 I found hiding underneath.
