What to grow up a shed wall?

Whilst painting my new shed this morning, I realised one of the walls was already warm from the morning sunshine, which got me thinking 'what could I grow up this wall?'

It faces due East so gets the sunrise and first few hours of direct sun, till probably noon, then shade after than.

As its 2.2m wide and 2m high there plenty of potential space!

Any suggestions?

(My best/only idea so far is a gutter-full of strawberries at shoulder level....)

Do you want edibles or pretty stuff?

If it were pretty, I'd go for a climbing rose. But my knowledge of pretty things is fairly thin still.

If it were edibles, I use my shed wall to grow achocha on. It covers it from June/July to the first frosts and gives me a huge harvest of green pepper substitutes.

Do you want something annual or perrenial? Cover the whole wall or the whole shed? Are you after food or flowers.

How about putting an outdoor cucumber or a Fat Baby?

For perennial clematis or train up a blackberry or hybrid berry.

Golden hops are easy - lovely colour foliage , just leave it to do its thing then chop down at end of the season. Big though.

You could plant a whole range of stuff that are partial to a bit shade.

How about an espalier fruit tree? Apple, pear, plum, peach etc.

To answer the questions - edibles definitely; not really bothered if its annual or a perennial.

I like the pallet structure idea and the ability to have a mix (as shown in Top Tips picture).
The wall is big enough that I could probably train something up it (some type of hybrid berry maybe) and have space for a pallet rack of things....

I have a pallet structure & the best tip I can give you is to line it with the strongest plastic possible to take the weight of the compost. Old compost bags are ideal or you could simply slide some full growbags between the slats.

If you're after berries try something like loganberries / blackberries etc. Stretch some wires across to tie in this years fruiting canes one side & next year's the other. Consider some way of netting against birds. Could work with summer fruiting rasps as well.
