Is that where you plant it in a pot then sink the pot in the ground. I always do that when I have to temporarily move something. Did it the first year we moved to this house. Ordered 72 perennial plug plants but had no beds to put them in. I potted them on then sunk the pots over winter
Dogs have masters, cats have slaves, and horses are just wonderful

Yes it is Bal, I have boat loads of pots (as I guess most of us have) so I'm going to select some, sow some beans, maybe smear the rim with Vaseline & see what happens.

I do it with flower plants or bulbs that'd rot through winter .

My blackberry is in a sunken pot. I cut holes in the sides of it and planted it. Bought it quite late on so didn't want to be disturbing it when it was growing do well. I did rhubarb in a sunken pot before from seed. It was in a fairly contained area but wanted to limit it's Size and prevent it popping up everywhere that went really well

I do it with things I want to restrain the roots of but don't want the hassle of constantly watering raspberries, mint, lemon balm. I also keep meaning to sink my blueberries in a pot due to ericaceous soil.

Yes, I've seen a vid of a guy who grows spuds in buckets then just sits them on a bed & gets amazing crops.

My fruit trees have been planted in 30 litre buckets in the ground to restrict the roots as they came from lidl and I have no idea if they are dwarf trees or not.

I water and feed at depth using small pop bottles, the plugs filled with sand to stop them blowing out.
