  • Broadbean chocolate spot - argh!

Looks like my broadies have chocolate spot... Not suprised really, its been so warm and damp lately. Ive read the rhs guide, and doesnt really say too much about it, ie how to treat it, are the pods safe to eat etc.
Ive trimmed off some of the lower leaves to try and improve airflow, bur if anyone has any more advice, Id be more than grateful!

Split the pods & eat any unmarked beans

Thank you. Luckily the pods still look ok, its mainly the lower leaves that are the worst affected.

Mine get it every year, and it gets worse as the season goes on . Even when the pods are covered, the beans inside are often edible, but I wouldn't personally eat the pods... I do plant in a different place each year, but it doesn't seem to stop it. Growing in the polytunnel over winter seems to help though - sow suitable varieties around October I think, and they'll crop early the following spring.
