My onions seem to be doing well - they're popping out of the ground..! Does that mean they're ready to harvest ........?

No, not yet. The bulbs will still be swelling. They will get bigger than what they are now. They will be ready to pull up out the ground once all the leaves start to turn yellow and fall over.
They look great by the way. -

Just not having grown onions before, wasn't sure how much longer to leave them..! But with all this miserable, rubbish, cold, windy, wet weather - it doesn't exactly make you want to go outdoors and pull your onions up, anyway.....!!!!!

So glad you asked that question, Susie. I didn't think it was time to harvest yet but mine look similar to yours in the photo which gives me relief I'm on the right track

Do we wait for both brown stems and the falling over? I only ask as mine have fallen but still green. Have been on holiday so assuming its from the wind and rain but coupled with absolutely no patients from me tee hee

Yeah, Brown/yellow leaves AND falling over.
My leaves always fall over when they are still green. Just wait until they start to die off and the onions will be ready to pull up.Comment
