My onions seem to be doing well - they're popping out of the ground..! Does that mean they're ready to harvest ........?

Thanks all
Just not having grown onions before, wasn't sure how much longer to leave them..! But with all this miserable, rubbish, cold, windy, wet weather - it doesn't exactly make you want to go outdoors and pull your onions up, anyway.....!!!!!
I'll do as you all suggested, and leave them longer ..... There's a lot of patience involved with this growing lark..!!~~~ Gardening is medicine that does not need

So glad you asked that question, Susie. I didn't think it was time to harvest yet but mine look similar to yours in the photo which gives me relief I'm on the right trackLOVE growing food to eat in my little town back garden. Winter update: currently growing overwintering onions, carrots, lettuce, chard, salad leaves, kale, cabbage, radish, beetroot, garlic, broccoli raab, some herbs.

Do we wait for both brown stems and the falling over? I only ask as mine have fallen but still green. Have been on holiday so assuming its from the wind and rain but coupled with absolutely no patients from me tee hee

I certainly wouldn't harvest them for storage yet. However if you need an onion for something there is no reason why you shouldn't eat one.A life is like a garden. Perfect moments can be had, but not preserved, except in memory. LLAP. - Leonard Nimoy
