Susie don't give up on it. I'm in West Sussex. I've had a devil of a time getting sweetcorn to germinate this year. My lottie neighbours say he same. I think even in Sussex it's been a case of to much variation in temperature. So your colder air will affect growth. What I did do was really feed my raised bed prior to transplanting and it's made a difference. Last year my sweetcorn was very disappointing.
I also .. as last year earthed up the stems to encourage roots to grow and anchor. The corn is leaning slightly after high winds but still upright. That really works very well,I can say that from experience.
But don't give up,we all struggle with something each year.
Me... X2 packets of parsnips and not one single seed germinated. Arrrgghh

Oh and as a footnote.. My sweetcorn is growing in a raised bed that I green manured earlier in the year.
What a difference it made! I swore I'd never do it again as too labour intensive but I will now as the difference was startling. Brilliant.

Yes, JJ, there are two pumpkin plants in the bed next door (taking a hold on the entire plot..!!!) and submerged (on the right of the pic) is a poor butternut squash.......! (There are also two tromboncino in the background which you can probably just see)

I can't see any tassels or silks on mine - although I don't know what I'm looking for as never grown sweetcorn before (would I know if they were there...??)

Have you a pic of your sweetcorn?
