Looking at my Zebrune shallots today it occurred to me that they are not the slim banana shallot shape I was expecting, nor anything like the picture on the seed packet. First time of growing them so not sure what to expect. I shall email the seed company anyway but what do you think? The peg in the photo is to give an item of size!

Definitely not a Banana shallot, a normal shallot would have more bulbs so don't know what's going on with that one.sigpic“Gorillas are very intelligent, but they don't have to be as delicate as chimps -- they can just smash open the termite nest,”

PS they are very similar to the torpedo onions I grow, both red and white. My Majesty made for him a garden anew in order

Zebrune do only form one bulb...but mine are quite uniform in both colour and shape each year...and they don't look like that!
They tend to be brown, glossy and very smooth, with a gently swelling, curvacious butt (ooer mrs) and as rude as that sounds it is in fact a good description...yours looks irregular and bulbous. It might just be a wrongun but if they're all like it I'd certainly be complaining!
edited to add...when I said 'yours' I meant your onion and not your buttLast edited by muddled; 15-07-2016, 09:40 PM.

Thanks for confirming my suspicions. This was one of the biggest ones, but all are the same shape. Obviously the colour will change as they ripen. Irritatingly the seed company's email "contact us" form doesn't allow for attachments so I'm still working on contacting them. Definitely not as strong smelling as an onion.
