Mushrooms, my fourth year :/

So for the past 3 years I've tried growing mushrooms to no avail.

Im trying again this year, previously I have tried the straw in a bag method, the shop bought method and the dowel method.

This year I will be using manure with impregnated saw dust inside a polystyrene box...

Does anyone else have problems with mushrooms or am I just doing something wrong..

We eat mushrooms daily so this would really help us save a bit money, any hints and tips would help.

I've failed a few times with ready to go boxes. Sometimes start a couple but they die soon enough.

Got my spawn, straw, compost and polystyrene box going to give it a go again. Must remember to sterilise straw think that is what has been messing up my attempts previous.

Fingers crossed I'll have button mushrooms in a month or so

Only ever used the ready to go boxes. Got decent enough results but not convinced it's any cheaper than just buying. Would be interested in a system with more longevity. Like the look of this pre-impregnated logs you can buy, but they're a bit pricey...

I've tried boxes, dowels drilled into oak logs, spawn sown into manure/woodchip and whatever else was recommended - none of it has been successful.
I eat lots of mushrooms too but I'm not going to waste any more money on trying to grow them.

I bought some spent mushroom compost years ago and used it to improve the soil in a greenhouse. With out trying I had an amazing crop of mushrooms and they were huge.

I've tried various methods and none have worked. I leant to identify wild ones instead and harvest those instead. Much easier
