Do t want to do it if it's gonna ruin my crop? Or do I just leave them? It's Virgin soil, the crop is sooo tall. Thanks in advance.

Not sure what to advise. I had the same a few years back, lots of green growth that I let grow, When it died back and I went to harvest I had not a lot in the way of potato's.
Cutting back the greenery will I think do little.
That was the year I planted into the ground, I had previously grown in large pots. It was also the only year I grew in the ground as I decided that growing in large pots was easier and seemed more productive.
One aspect is they need water, so be aware of that.
What do you mean by "actual potato's" ?
Guessing some from a supermarket.

They have not had many weeks of growth yet,if the ground is dry they may need a drink, you say the growth is tall, some do,some don't,how tall are you saying ?,i presume you planted shop one's,and popped them in the ground with no little shoots on,how deep did you plant and did you earth up,if you chop any top growth off,you will stop the new potatoes from growing plus stop production to send up more green growth, thus weakening the plant, and holding it back this time of the year, just leave them as they are, they will carry on growing until the weather gets to cold,Last edited by lottie dolly; 24-07-2016, 09:27 PM.sigpicAnother nutter ,wife, mother, nan and nanan, love my growing places, seed collection and sharing, also one of these

Hello Marbles & welcome to the Jungle, when you say they are Roasters do you mean Roosters? If they are Roosters, they are a Maincrop variety which need approx 5 months in the ground so you'll be looking at late October before lifting.sigpic“Gorillas are very intelligent, but they don't have to be as delicate as chimps -- they can just smash open the termite nest,”
