is is time to move my Chilli plant oustide?

Originally i sowed the chili from seedling early May in the container amongst other vegetables as I was a complete beginner and the courgette plant took over. Also when watering the rose fell of my watering can and knocked it. I saved it and for the last month its been on my windowsill.

Its getting quite tall and was wondering should I plant outside now or leave it alone. Not sure where to put it outside yet, I have some borders but it doesn't get much sun or make space in my container away from the courgette plant which is doing very well.

Well Jack, if it were mine I think I would keep it indoors.
You dont say what part of the country your living in or the variety of your chilli plant but if yoy dont have anywhere sunny I dont think you well get any Chillis.
It looks a little on the pale side but that might be because its not a very good pic.
Someone else may give you different advice.

I'd echo Bramble's thoughts Jack.
I'm no expert, but the experts will probably need to know your location and variety of chilli!

Looking at the photo, if your windy I'd keep it in a sheltered place, it looks a little spindly and potentially top heavy..

I'd have thought it would be fine to keep inside, as long as you have room for it inside!?

I'm going to leave where it is. It seems to like the windowsill.
I live in eastbourne by the coast and can get windy so very likely it will get knocked over if not sheltered.

The chilli plant is still on the kitchen window seal and is doing well and has a few buds appearing

A photo would be great. I would grow it on the windowsil but my guess it will need potting on now.

You definitely need to repot it, ideally in a 10l pot. If you have a sheltered corner in your garden that is quite sunny you could place it there, in a pot.

Just measured it. It's about 33cm in height so do u think I shall try to re pot it. Here by the coast it's very windy it's 3 months in the making and a bit of wind and it's blown away.

Keep it indoors and give it a weak feed, half strength tomato food until some fruit set then a weekly feed,full strength to promote good sized fruit, try to keep it in good light to stop it getting leggy...

Hi Jack, have you looked under the leaves to check if there are any aphids on your chilli plant. There appearscto be something eating it.If you do find any, give the plant a spray with soapy water.

My understanding with chilies is that they need to be potted up because the size they grow up to depends on the pot size. But yes, definitely if it is so windy, keep it inside!

It's probably blown away because it's top heavy and needsto be in a bigger pot. Can we see how big the pot is? Bramble has also spotted those crinkly leaves on the top of your plant....that suggests you have some aphids. Wash them off and keep squishing them as advised.

They don't need to go in a 10l pot until they are ready. In fact at this late in the season I would pot on to give the roots some room and be able to put on some growth but be small enough to sit on a windowsil to overwinter. I would never grow a chilli plant outside. Always under glass. Sunny windowsil or greenhouse for best results in my opinion. That's not to say peeps don't keep them outside but you get a much better crop on an indoor plant - they really like the heat..and we don't know where Jack lives. As he just has the one plant he should have the room to keep it inside and have more chance for a decent crop.

Morning all
I haven't got any tomotoe Feed but vegetable feed that have been using on other veg trying to grow so will use that. Keep forgetting as feed is outside and chilli plant indoors.

Checked for aphids but can't see any sort of insect on there but will look out for them and use soapy water if needed.

Here on eastbourne east sussex the garden is a total mess due to heavy rain or wind in the last 2 days so my chilli plant is staying where it is. When it gets to big for windowsill will move to conservatory and repot it then.
