I don't know how to grow it successfully at this time of year. I know that if I just try and grow it out of doors, it will still be small at the end of the season at which point it stops growing, then in the spring it runs to seed. I haven't tried since.

        My neice is not impressed

It's now 2 weeks since we sowed some swede seeds and nothing is showing. I explained to her that it takes time etc we had to cut a few courgette leaves off so it will get some sunlight she is very adamant that will work.
We sowed some more swede seeds today but I think she is not that impressed ; (

Oh dear, Jack! Swede take ages. How about trying some turnip seeds which are much quicker. I sowed some recently and had little seedlings emerge in just two or three days.
LOVE growing food to eat in my little town back garden. Winter update: currently growing overwintering onions, carrots, lettuce, chard, salad leaves, kale, cabbage, radish, beetroot, garlic, broccoli raab, some herbs.

Hmm, my swedes germinated in 2 days in the (unheated) propagator. Maybe the best thing would be to grow something quick in a pot indoors - lettuce or mizuna spring to mind. That way there is less chance of losing them to slugs or other beasties.

thanks, I have pots indoors and outdoors with all veggies trying to grow.

When i try to do root vegetables dont seem to be good as plants, but saying that I had to rescue my chilli plant a few time and now finally getting there i think!!!

After 4 weeks no sign of swede. We sowed some turnip seeds Thursday & there might be some showings so fingers cross.!
Moved the pepper into the conservatory as it was not doing anything in the big container outside plus the winds don't help.
