  • peas and pests

Something appears to be eating my peas. Mice, I would guess. They're nibbling through the top of the pod and must be taking the whole thing away to eat in comfort as there is no pod left. I'd had my best crop in years, and I was scratching my head as to why this wasn't lasting as well as normal, then I noticed pods were just disappearing.

Is there anything I can do about this. Other than bring in an army of cats, or a tame owl?

My second pea patch has also been cleared out through the week. I'm very sad.

Any suggestions at all as to anything I might do? Never had this before.

I don't condone this because I love mice... but if you wanted to deter / get rid could you not set traps?

Preferably however, if you g@@gle there are lots of more natural solutions

Of course I don't know how well they would apply outside, but if you're only keeping them out of a certain area they might at least help.

Either that or put lots of cheese around your boundaries

I was joking about the owl, but that was number 8! No problems in the house. I'm also fine having them in the garden, as long as they don't eat the crops, which they haven't done until this year.

They haven't touches the broad beans. Yet.

If it is mice unless you get rid you won't have any peas next season. (a) they breed like wildfire and (b) they will dig up and eat the next setting of peas.

Another thought when the cold weather arrives guess where they will be heading.....................
