  • Pea Dilemma

I have finally been able to get into the garden and have a look round to see what damage all the rain has caused and find I have a bit of a pea dilemma

I planted my peas (in a raised bed) quite close together (in my naivety as I didnt get much crop last year). Now I have a mass of peas some of which are dead (too much water I think) and some dying and some just slugged to death. I have some new peas shooting up nicely in the dining room with more to start off today.

My dilemma is - do I just salvage what pods I can and pull up the plants and start again and plant further apart next time (would release some well needed space) or do I just see what I can get from the plants and try and find space elsewhere for the new plants (might be a bit of a squeeze).

    Hi

I had the same thing a few weeks ago - just harvested all i could and pulled them all up. Pop some new stuff in. I am having exactly the same dilemma to day with the pots, and the same answer - digging them all up and planting fresh stuff in.

I agree with zazen - you'll never straighten them out, and they'll just get right on your ti...nerves until they are out.

Pick what you can, put in new, and give them proper support this time!!

I pulled mine up yesterday they were so tangled that I couldn't do anything with them. Have made a note for next year so I don't make the same mistake

Rip 'em up and plant something else. I just ripped up about 200m of Onward peas cos they were crap. Using the space for lettuces and raddichio to go in next week.
