  • Lettuce growing now at DEFCON 1

Previously a cat had dug up one of my lettuce hence the bread tray covering them.
    But that's another war!

However a new enemy has appear, see

So we are now at DEFCON 1 , deadly force authorized.
Once I can identify the culprit.
    Suspects are
    1) Slugs
    2) Limbo dancing rabbit.
    3) Caterpillars, although I have never had lettuce problems.
    4) Limbo dancing pigeons.

    Anyone got any ideas.
    Thanks
    Jimmy

Most likely slugs or snails. Pigeons will stand on mesh and peck through.

Could be baby sparrows they'll try anything, I know they took a liking to my lettuce.
      Location....East Midlands.

I've got a couple of rabbits one of whom is about wildy size.....he can fit though baby gates, under sofas, runs up and down stairs. I even know of a baby bunny who climbed out of his pen squirrel style. They are tricky little blighters that can get everywhere. They'd love sitting on top of your protection and reaching in to grab some lettuce

Hmm Slugs and Caterpillars I would put to the boot.
Rabbits and Pigeons (and possibly cats) I would put to the POT!

I think it must be pigeons, we have loads around.
I covered all but one with a fine wire net and nibbling stopped apart from the uncovered one.
Also no sign of rabbit pellets !

Always find slugs and snails a major problem for late season leaves, often removing entire plants over night. My lettuce for this time of year is in containers. Resting on the arms of a chair. On the lawn. I should really try to add a photo of this.
