I posted a few weeks back that this years onions looked good but this has exceeded my expectations.

Excellent - red ones too! I always find them much harder as they tend to bolt.
I have mixed results - at home the onions are rather small whereas at my friend's they are huge. The main differences are that I mulched the ones at my friend's with rotted horse muck and the ones at home with strulch, and there is much more sun at my friend's.A life is like a garden. Very good crop, did you use sets or seeds, and are they all grown in pots?it may be a struggle to reach the top, but once your over the hill your problems start.

Heat treated sets Red Fen, all grown in containers of one sort or another.
I find the best containers I have for onions are three recycled plastic cold water storage tanks, cut down to about 9" deep.
Thing is I have done nothing different this year than I always do, so am putting it down to 'they liked the weather'.Potty by name Potty by nature.
