  • Very nice BM

    If it's a South American theme then the wolf is more North American culture (I don't think that it lives in South America -I think the Maned Wolf is the largest canid. Not sure about central America / Mexico though)

            • A sundial would make a useful filling for a keyhole & you can design it how you like,marbles set into the concrete would be nice,something shiny to reflect the sun? This link talks about how to set one up;

                  I like sundials but the whole idea of the keyhole in each bed is so that all of the beds can be reached from the paths and the central circle by standing or kneeling.Doing a very basic risk assessment, having a dirty big spike in the middle may cause a few problems!

                  Thats not to say I couldn't have a home made sundial somewhere on the plot.

                    Although, to be fair it would keep you focussed on the job at hand - without you slacking and maybe having a sit down.

                          • Another canny session on the plot. Borrowed OH's iphone and added a compass app. Set up on the central keyhole and marked S,N,E and W on the sets surrounding the inner crcle. I can now concrete it and etch the exact orientation of the plot on to wet cement.
                            The prevailing wind is an Westerly , the wooded Dene beside me is on the West side so theoretcally this should shelter the plot!

                            The shelter wasn't enough to stop my poor bedraggled Chrysanthemums from taking a battering. Some are nearly six foot high and plants were lying flat. I thought about digging then up and re-planting them on the South facing summerhouse border. Once I started digging the border i found it full of broken glass and it had a membrane burried about six inches below ground. I pulled so much of this out then gave it up as a bad job.
                            I decided to support plants in situ with 5 foot metal pins used by roadworkers for roping off areas.
                            A pin was knocked into the ground next to each plant and plant was tied to pin with plastic cable ties. This has tidied up the plants and I may even get a few flowers offf them now!

                            Oops, forgot to add I gathered a wheelbarrow load of hoss muck from the main gate, transported it, and spread it on the rectangular bed I intend plantiong Spring Cabbage into.

                                You know what it is, I love wolves, especially Timber wolves. I have a German Shepherd and a Siberian Husky both of which are as close to a wolf as you will get.

                                The wolf will be the last cement etching I do and I want it to be simple but effective. I'm going to carry on with the frog and bird thingy first and give the wolf a bit more thought yet!
                                Next in line is the sunburst though!
