It was just a thought as you would have waste from the 7ft lengths...........Out of 8ft you could have a 6+2...........or 2x3's +2......you get my drift.
But out of a 7 foot length you could get two X 2 foot lengths and a three foot length and I could make one frame 7 foot long and one frame 5 foot long.
My head hurts!

Bought a pack of eight X 8 foot lengths from B&Q. I have eight lats off an old bed base that will do for the cross braces, so shouldn't need to buy any more.
13 squid for two carrot frames aint too bad!
Made a start cutting and working out what goes where. I'll either put small triangles of ply to strengthen the corners or see if I can get some cheap metal bracketry. Also bought 2.5 inch and 3 inch nalils to finish my chicken run.
Now all I need is time to do it!

A day woodworking. One carrot frame finished and tuther cut, ready for assembly
Roof spars added to chicken run. 8 foot X 3 foot sheet of glass manhandled onto roof for chooks conservatory
A couple more spars to go on roof then I can start utilising all the weldmesh I've been saving for eons. Sick of falling over the damm stuff!

Not much done on the plot this evening as it started to rain. Did notice that my Chrysanths were ready for taking cuttings and remembered seeing some vermiculite in Poundland.
Toddles off to Poundland and finished up spending £6 on vermiculite, staple nails for fixing wire, a cover for my Daubertons kale to keep the pesky pigeons off, a pack of lighters for the woodburner and pens to write out plot rent receipts plus a lemon drink.
Hope to get a few cuttings taken tomorrow evening.

Took about 20 cuttings from my chrysanth stools. Some of which are named cultivars, others aren't. Used small square pots with a thin layer of vermiculite on top of compost, four cuttings to a pot. Covered each pot with a polythene bag and took them home and stuck em on the windowsill.
Also planted out my one and only either Daubertons or Taunton Dene kale. Surrounded it with four cnes over which I put a fleece bag. Hopefully this will grow big and strong and furnish me with loads of cuttings!

Well, did a bit of de-nailing and fitted the last roof spar to the chiken run. A few more supports to go in then I can start adding the roof mesh.
I was going to bring the fruit trees from my old plot but the new plotholder offered me 50 squid for to leave them!: I couldn't take the 50 squid so agreed to only take one apple tree and leave them the rest for nowt! They have bairns and want instant apples this season!

Nailed a large piece of rigid 2 inch square mesh on to roof of chicken run.
Transported a wheel barrow full of dressed stone from my old plot to be used in my stone fireplace. This is to diguise and utilise the heat from the flue pipe.
Donated another cockerell I had hatched to another allotmenteers flock. I've only got the auld guy daddy cockerel which i am keeping and one of his male offspring now, plus three of his daughters.

Great thread! Any pics of your wood burner in the shed? I may have missed them in an earlier post!
There were some piccies until the evil grapevine gremlins obliterated them. I'll post a piccie once I have a bit of a play about with my new stone fireplace! I'm lashing it up as a dry stone wall until I get it the shape i want!
I've got to get my chooks in their new coop and run by the end of the month so I am concentrating on that at the mo.

Sowed some Calabrese and Sprouts. You wouldn't believe how hard it is to get non-F1 veg seeds these days, the world has gone F1 mad!
Wrestled loads of mesh into position on the roof of my chicken run. The whole roof is like a jigsaw pussle of mesh and wherever it overlaps I'll have to affix a noggin to fasten it to.
Before i put the mesh on the area next to the wooded Dene I rolled some barbwire into position to keep the local scroats from climbing on my chicken run.
I've got a deadline now for moving chooks but I'd rather move them sooner than later

Rain, well actually hail, stopped play at the allotment this evening. I managed to get a few more spars cut and nailed into position on the chicken run roof but left it a bit late to leave and got nigh on drowned!
I had a cardboard box with me with tatties and onions for home and by the time I got to the allotment gates the cardboard was mush!
Here's a couple of piccies. Firstly my little sitting out area with my one pound plant I rescued from homebase sitting proudly in the centre of the table.
Secondly is one of the two wooden carrot frames (another to assemble yet) that will be covered in enviromesh and are big enough to cover three rows of carrots!

I preferred watching Willie Rushtons 'Trapdoor' (Cos there's something down there!)

Worked on chicken run until it was dark. Scrounged a couple of sheets of Corex off Jay-el which I incorporated into the chooks covered area. (What a joy that was to cut...not!)
