Nope, it was definately a RSJ (Rolled steel Joist) as it had tapered flanges whereas the modern UB (Universal 'I' Beam) has 90 degree flanges and no need to use tapered washers when assembling bolts through flanges........................

I hadn't a clue what Baldy's post meant so I thought i would just muddy the waters a bit.

            • Had a night on the tiles this evening..............pan tiles that is. I'm using them to edge my beds! Rather fetching they look too, even I do say so myself. Cleared the greenhouse glass from the edge of the bed I am working on and ditched a couple of panes that got broken. I only need enough for half the greenhouse as the fence side and top will be plastic to deter toe rags heaving bricks through it.
I still have three mahoosive RSJ's to untilise in some way. I will use two to level a base for my hut and the other to edge the other end of the bed I am working on.
I need to get this bed up and operational as I have a mountain (maybe 50) chrysanthemum cuttings ready to plant out.
I will try and manhandle one of the RSJ's myself but hope to gt my Son to give me a hand shifting the other two to the bottom of the plot where the shed will be.

In case i forget later, I sowed a pot full of PSB. If I have six plants that will be enough for me. They do hog the ground for nigh on a full year, but I like em , so they are worth it.

              • Back at the scrapheap and still dealing with scrap left by the previous occupant.

The mahoosive RSJ's that were left on site I managed to cut in half with a still saw. They are still very heavy, so today I have been trying to utilise them as a bed edging. First of all I exrended the path by hacking back undergrowth and laying four paving flags up to the fence. I put a string line on right through the centre circle to make sure they were positioned right.
The white pot with the buddleia in it covers the last one

I then added the RSJ to match the other one at the other side and have pan tiles along the front of the bed. I then added four wheel barrow loads of hoss muck as a mulch. All the pots and trays have the chrysanthemums I took from cutting and will be planting in this area. A LOT of chrysanths!

I still have two RSJ's which I need to move to bottom of plot as a base for my shed and a huge log of wood I would like to get into the chicken run, propped up on logs for something for chooks to sit/play on.
All of these are too heavy for me to lift (unless i drag them) so will hopefully get my son to help me lift them.

Finished off by sowing a few chilli peppers in the summerhouse. I know its a bit late, but they've got two chances.

                    • Bit of a boring day at the scrapheap today. Planted all my old chrysanthemum stools (about 25) then went and met our previous treasurer for coffee to handover the cheque books/ paying in books. Had a good bit of chat with her about a new Tiny homes venture she is setting up.
Returned to plot and was paid another couple of plot rents, leaving only one plot rent to be paid!
Planted up another 25 un-named chrysanthemum cuttings I hd taken my self. Last year some of my chrysanth flowers were cut short by frosts. This year I have another 25 named cuttings I intend to plant up in 8 inch pots if i can fins any, and bring them indoors in autumn to flower.
I still have well over 25 un-named cuttings to plant out in the bed but I will wait until they have a better rooting system before planting.

Methinks 100 Chrysanths should be enough for cut flowers!

                      • Back at plot after a long lie in!

Didn't have three weetabix for brekkie but still managed to drag two RSJ's further up the plot away from the bed I was working on. Also dragged a humungus log into the chicken run which when my back has recovered a bit I will set up a couple of feet off the floor on two short logs set into ground.
Cleaned all rthe leaves, weeds and scrap from the triagular bed on edge of plot...............then the rain came.

Dived into summerhouse, lit the woodburner and sowed cucumbers, three Pumpkins for compettion and some cauliflowers. It was still raining so made myself comfortable in front of the woodburrner and the pitter patter of rain n the roof allowed me to relax and doze for about an hour.
Rain ceased again,so started laying the pan tiles around the bed I was working on. It then came on heavy again so this time I rang OH and asked her how the roast beef dinner was coming on? I'm just putting the yorkshire puddings in sez her, so I was off like a shot and got home just as dinner was being served up!

                        • Back to my second, sorry, third home today. My fourth home belongs to the North West Durham Angling Association!
Turned the polytunnel plastic the right way around and secured the bottom with paving flags.
Mixed a bit of mortar up and cemented a few stones around the bottom of my woodburner
. Gave the chooks some sprouts I had scrounged off one of the plot holders.

Today i was determined to finish a triangular bed with pan tiles as edging. After digging no end of rocks, glass and metal out ifinally got the bed edged. Raked bed level and applied two wheelbarrow loads of hoss muck to the surface.
I'm well pleased with the result and wonder why pan tiles aren't a common bed surround?

I have loads of various coloured pan tiles left and will certainly be utilising them on some of the other beds.

                          • Back at 'You know where' today.Decided to mark out a bed for my late spuds and try and get them planted.
Edged the bed roughly with boards, dug holes where each spud had to go. Managed to plant four rows of Elfe in holes and used two barrow loads of hoss muck to infill holes after planting. Decided I'd done enough for the day so will get the rest planted ASAP.
Scrounged a 1000 litre IBC container which i will eventually hook up to a gutter system off my summerhouse.

My plot is starting to deviate from the original plan now that I have sited my polytunnel. I have had a bit of a play about with the original and made a few ammendments

Plan with ammendaments at top and original plan below.
