        • Snadger, will you be selling your tatties to the local chippie? Or do you just eat an awful lot of tatties??
Anyway, looks like it's all coming along great. You've put tons of blood, sweat 'n tears into that there plot!

We eat a lot of spuds. I also have a lot of relatives who would relish a bag of spuds. I have that many varieties planted it will be a bit like a tattie trial to see which spud is best suited to the plot.
            Thanks for your kind comments.

            • Its strange the way ideas evolve! The pointy end of the plot was originally going to be for the chooks. That idea has changed as this is the area that the local kids have climbed over the fence in the past and I don't think my chooks will be safe.
I was pondering (sic) what to put at this end when one of the plotholders mentioned a pond? A little sit out area with a pond near to the fence would be good as the kids would rather not climb over the fence to land in a pond!

I shall give the design aspect some more thought! I have a pond in my other plot with frogs and newts and I honestly believe that along with a holistic planting regime this helps to keep the slug population down.

              • I agree about the pond but I think I would be tempted to grow gooseberries there if kids are bunking over the fence..

Nothing hurts as much as landing on goosegogs...except maybe brambles, they'll not do it twice

One step ahead of you muddled! I have four goosegogs planted along the fence.

                    Hahaha!! Lovin' the thinking there!!
I remember getting into terrible trouble with Mum as a youngster, made my little brother climb next doors fence to retrieve our lost ball .... He came back looking like the swamp monster (minus ball....) as he'd inadvertently climbed the fence just where 'uncle' Bill's pride and joy fish pond was!!!!
Tried to sneak baby brother some dry clothes out, but I think the smell of the pond water all over him gave us away!!!

Anyway, pond, goosegogs or nettles all would work!!!

                        • Took a few new piccies today. I hope you'll agree there's been a massive improvement on the plot. Its still a work in progress with lots to do but should be more or less the way i want it by next planting season.

First of all the summerhouse. Still needs the roof felting when mother nature can string two sunny days together and the interior needs a bit of work.......but its getting there.

Fully constructed from material scavaged from the original plot, with three glass panels in the roof, this was a 'test drive' of a model of the summerhouse i intend to build at my retirement home out of new materials. (with modifications)

This area covering more than half of the plot was progressively planted with tatties. Starting with Charlotte spuds which I am eating now, there is also Desiree, Kerr's Pink,PFA,Elfe and whatever I could scrounge from the bottom of the fridge!

The tatties were 'dibbled' into the attrociuos soil and lots of hoss muck added. They have performed very well and as each tattie is dug the land is cultivated for the first time in many a year. Lots of debris to remove, but should make a decent area for following crops.

Apart from tatties , I now have Blackcurrants, gooseberries, white currants, raspberries, strawberries, chrysanths, drumstick primulas, foxgloves, blackberries, rhubarb, sweetcorn, climbing peas, climbing beans, pumpkins, butternut, courgettes, cabbage, sprouts, calabrese and some indoor stuff. Not as big a selection as i usually have but once the tatties are dimished other plantings will take place.
