  • Not sad at all mate, it shows you've still got the desire.

      Above is a view from Summerhouse end. The idea is to get areas ready for planting and I can always work on levelling and permanently fastening the paving flags into position.

      Below is a piccie from other end clearly showing the keyhole design which enables all areas to be worked from paths without stepping on beds. Tomorrow I shall go and get a few barrow loads of hoss muck from near to the main gates and spread it on this bed ready for planting Japanese onion sets, thats if Jay-el hasn't nicked it all!

      I will need to find something flexible to shutter the three foot diameter sections at the end of the keyholes. Thin ply or hardboard cut into 4" wide strips should do I would think. I only need to make one shutter as all keyhole ends are the same size!

      Above is a view from inside the summerhouse with the plan pinned to the window frame for reference!;

      I have to work around existing plantings and old paths,greenhouse, but once I 've got some stuff planted I can get rid of these at my liessure

                    • I picked up another half a dozen paving flags today. Because I got a puncture the last time I brought my car along the allotment road (some people empty out the ashes from there woodburners on to the track, but don't sift out the nails and screws first!) I parked at the entrance and wheel barrowed paving flags to plot.

                      One of the keyhole beds is now mucked and ready to plant some Japanese onions. Because of its shape it will be better to plant them in arc's rather than straight lines. Once I get them planted up I'll take a picccie.

                      Lots of work to do shifting stuff from my other plot, but at least I will have stuff growing in one area.

                      Because of the shape of the beds I am going to have to be very imaginative with the design of netted enclosures fro brassica's etc!

                      Tomorow evening, if i don't get lumbered with working overtime, I intend starting to transport some small granite sets tpo be used around the three foot circles of the keyholes. Once they are in position I will concrete the middle and may even add a bit of Inca themed artwork to the wet cement!

                      • If you notice, a lot of the Inca artwork was based on a circle..............which is handy!

                                Took dog for walk couple of days ago around the fields in the dark. Dog starts staring at the sky and gave me the willies as I was sure I spotted a dark shape overhead. Made the hairs on the back of my neck stand up.
                                Took dog in same area last night and same happened again. This time dog and I looked up and dark shape re-appeared. It wasn't until I heard it screeching I realised it was an OWL!
