  • Let the final plot on the site this evening. Fully let site means we can keep plotholders rent to the same as it has been for the last three years.. Plot is a bit of a builders yard but new plot holders seem enthusiastic (Me giving the sales pitch...blank canvas, you can put your own mark on it, Blah, Blah Blah etc etc. At least there is not a lot of broken glass and scrap metal on it.........whereas mine...............i'm still sifting through it
Problem is we now have no Treasurer so muggins has a pint glass full of cash from plot rents at home!

Still managed to transport another couple of wheelbarrow loads of pan tiles from my old plot at he close of business!

    • Rescued my polytunnel cover from my previous site where the present plotholder had burried it under a pile of carp at the top of the plot. Also recued a couple of of plastic window sill planters from the same heap!

Sorted the chooks and noticed there egg count has increased so they must be enjoying there new coop and run. First day after move I got only thee eggs which i put down to the upheaval, five eggs yesterday and seven eggs today! They have also started laying only in the nestbox and not roosting in it, preferring the roosting bars I added.

Spent a pleasant hour taking chrysanthemum cuttings. Put them in modules (24) and covered with a clear plastic propagator cover. The last ones i used heat at home on the window sill, but these ones I am just going to leave in the summerhouse and see how they do.

That polytunnel is going to reek of fish for ages. But at least the planters are lined up again.

        • Demolished my old shed and moved it to my new plot today. The hardest part was emptying it.
I had just got the scrapheap looking tidy and now it looks like a bomb had dropped with bits of shed and benches from within strewn over the plot. The problem was that I couldn't carry it by myself so had to drag the sections most of the way.

Shattered and ready for a bath, but hey -ho, tomorrows another day. I have a few days off work at the back end of the week to coincide with the beginning of the trout season so may spend a day getting my spuds and onion sets in as well as a day or two fishing.

          • Had to drag the floor of my shed 8 foot X 6 foot with support woodwork about 100ys from my old plot to my new plot as i couldn't lift the dammed thing. It was propped up next to the access road and was quite windy. I would never have forgiven myself if it had blown over and fell on top of a child!

Decided to erect the steel work for my polytunnel and was quite surprised I had it erected and ready to accept the cover in less than half an hour! I might even try putting the cover back on tomorrow evening, if the wind abates a bit.

            • Lit the woodburner as it was a bit parky. Soon got toasty in the summerhouse so after sorting the chooks I did a bit of pottering. I sowed my Vince tomato seeds that i scrounged off a grape! I know nothing about them including colour, shape growth etc. so it should prove interesting. Also sowed my Black Russian toms and potted up a couple of bare root shrubs OH had bought at a reduced price. (I didn't have the nerve to tell her that i had already bought a potted weigiellia and potentilla for less than she paid for bare rooted specimens)
Took what I had sowed home and stuck it on the window sill over a radiator. Noticed one guy at the allotment has his tomatoes on the bench in a cold greenhouse. With snow forecast I think he may be pushing his luck a bit!

              • Managed to get my red onion sets in.

Transported a concrete sundial on pedestal and a concrete birdbath on pedestal from our ex treasurers plot. She told me I could have whatever I liked as she had taken everything she wanted to keep, including a Belfast sink I gave her.

Once I get my other onion sets planted that will be my allium keyhole bed fully planted up, apart from a section I am leaving for leeks. So thats japanese Troy onions and japanese red onions growing well, shallots and spring planted red onions, and only normal spring planted sets to go in soon, with leeks later.

I have decided that because I have five keyhole beds I will try and adopt a rotation program, but won't be too anal about it.

I haven't been compos mentis for about three days as I had severe toothache and am waiting to have tooth sorted on 5th April. The nerve was exposed which meant I couldn't sleep for the pain. I think I have managed to kill the nerve using clove oil and had a decent nights sleep for once. I can now actually drink a cup of coffee without extreme pain.

Some may disagree about the time scale

I had toyed with going to the mental hospital, sorry Dental Hospital (Cannot imagine what made me think of that)

As I'm now down to a two on the richter scale from an alarming nine I was, I think I'll just try and hang on until 5th April when the smiling assasin of a dentist can inflict more pain on me.!

A tomato of my ilk then!

That is good news, mine hasn't germinated in potting compost with a thin layer of vermiculite on top....yet. My Black Russian haven't germinated yet either so I'm not too worried.

                          • Called at the scrapheap yesterday to sort the chooks but as it was such a nice day decided to go fishing after some plumbing work on my retirement house.

Didn't catch owt but the water was like a mill pond and its in a very picturesque setting!

Today was another smashing day ( I think the big guy in the clouds is spoiling us with two in a row)

Forgot to put the clocks forward so arose at 11.30 thinking it was 10.30!

Planted up the rest of my onion sets. Starting to realise how practical keyhole beds are so I didn't need to tread on the bed at all. An area was left for leeks which are still in the summerhouse.
I had problems finding seed for golden thyme (dot plants on path joints). I bought a golden thyme plant and by splitting it up managed to get 16 little plantlets potted into modules.
Finished the session by digging little pockets where I propose putting my early tatties, mainly to find out how many I need. I could get 50 plants to a keyhole bed. I'll plant up the 40 Charlotte seed spuds I have and maybe bung in some leeks on the bit left over as you can't have too many leeks. The intention is to do the same as last year ie dig a hole, drop a seed spud in and cover it with hoss much delivered for free to site. Once they are all planted with a bit of fertiliser in each hole I will then cover the whole bed with a layer of hoss muck.

                            • Took the blue debri net cover off my Spring cabbage and my curly Kale. The kale is tiny and shows signs of bolting but the spring cabbage looks healthy enough, if a bit leggy. I cleared all the leaves and rotten bits of cardboard (loads of worms under cardboard) and ridged up the spring cabbage with soil. Put a sprinkling of sulphate of ammonia around each plant to give them a kick up the backside, and watered it in. Put the cover back on again.
I then took the last batch of chrysanthemum cuttings which filled a seed tray.I thought I had a perspex cover but couldn't find it. I put fleece over seedtray temporarily.

                              • Not a lot done on the plot this evening as I had to take the dog to the vet first after work. Still managed to clear my table in the summerhouse of spent Chrysanthemum stools, picked up a poundland propagator and was quite impressed wih it. I must have talken about 80 cuttings from the chrysanth stools so they haven't done too bad.
Put the seed tatties on the bench where the chrysanths were and was pleased to see my three dozen calabrese that i pricked out yesterday, standing up like little soldiers!
