Someone (Lardman) made me think that growing these was a splendid idea. I have triffids indoors and out, all with fruit of varying optimism on them.

Anyone know how long it takes the blessed things to ripen?

I have about 6 large fruit on my potted plant, but they are resolutely green and rock hard.

Will they ripen off the plant if it gets too cold in the greenhouse?

If I remember it took me 7 seasons of trying before I got a ripe fruit. Mine never went very soft but did go from green and purple to an orange/yellow with purple (rather like butternut squash skin) which I assumed was ripe.

Did you thin off the fruit ? Last year I removed all but 3 and things were much happier.

The good news - I over wintered mine last year on the kitchen window ledge, and even took several cuttings and rooted them in water over the winter period. If I could have kept the spider mite off them I'm pretty sure they'd have done well this year.

Thanks Trip, glad I'm not alone...

I didn't thin the fruit - oops. Didn't know I should and I was so proud of getting some I left them all on. Am guessing the outdoor ones are goners but I might try getting cuttings from them and keeping indoors. The flat's getting crowded what with all the chillies I am sneaking in under my jumper...
