Challenge-to grow just enough for a small family :)

I believe in challenges posted here by my self or lovely grapes. with them

--> I stopped buying seeds (failed challenge, but I bought more and more then reached to a state that can't buy anymore. still have a £5 voucher to use y end of next month )
--> I have grown radishes in my first year with VC's Challenge and it made me grow etter radishes next year (this year) . I have even succeed with mooli radish which are ready

--> I have also grown 2 lots of carrots this year. one from plug plants and one from seed in small patch. later ones are huge , and geared up to grow all the year next year.


So here is my next years challange to grow just enough of every crop , with no planned gluts


hope for less failures this way.


has anyone up for it? and suggetions are more than welcome

Show off,, I have never had any success with mooli radish so well done, what Idolike growing is chard it can be used as a salad leaf when small and a cooked veg when large, same with beetroot.

Crops aiming to grow in next season:

Broad beans:

I used of several packets of seeds just to feed mice, and few grown from plugplants and plants started in pots at home went crappy with my poor attention.

sown last 3 aquadulance seeds at home in pots again, also 25 broadbean seeds from a lottie friend successfully sown in the pots. I have another packet of seeds to sow in january . so this year I am determined to grow lot of usable broadbeans enough to taste and also freeze.


Onions:

I did grew very good size onions, but same spot for the next year is not ready so will try another part of lotty where I have not added any compost recently. have a kilo of onion sets. will put in as much possible sincce I can eat upto 40 kilos of onions. but happy with anything around 20 kg.

Garlic: need to put in 2 lots of garlic for both perenial and first year. Lots of beds vacant, but not yet decided as I am not sure how good any of those corners in terms of drainage in wet winters. If get the council compost delivered (placed the order during april bank holiday, and still waiting), garlic will be happily set in.

Brassicas: is there any thing I start with brassicas at this time of year?

Spinach: few pots of spinach seedlings popping up.

Lettuce: winter lettuce from real seeds are coming up in a slightly large paper pot, need to plant into big tubs under glass


Peas: sown meteor peas in 15 pots (2 to 4each) under glass , and outside small raised bed (1.2x1.2m) covered with glass)

ha ha..I did grow mooli radish at home, so they got watered very well

I started liking chard again. Have 2 plants now, giving me enough. I grow lots of other leafy like many types of spinach, calaloo, rosella etc. so leaves from beets are never bothered. but want to try radish leaves next year.

Have a look at investing your £5 voucher in some of the orientals. As long as you sow them early or after mid July they can grow very fast so several crops are possible in a very short time.

I have ordered Japanese brocoli - sorry can't remember the name as the whole plant is edible (as long as the flowers arn't open) in between 30 - 60 days.
