Pumpkin / Sqush Help Please

Can anyone recommend a pumpkin or squash that won't get too big and will grow in an 80 ltr pot?

We are very limited for space so can't have anything that sprawls across the ground or needs to go up a support.

I have been looking at various sites that sell the seeds - brain has now gone numb!

I really need a bush variety that only has smallish fruit (to fit in the oven) and is tasty - I like the nutty taste ones.

p.s - as per normal my typing finger has done it's own thing and it is supposed to say Squash in the title not 'sqush'

Something like small sugar or little jack ( can't remember his proper name ) or sweet dumping ( maybe). As long as you fed and watered regular. I think they would be OK. You could put a framework of some sort ( see BM about that sort of thing) so they grow vertically, taking up less space.
Just an idea. A bit of research may be needed I'm not sure if they all like to climb.

I grew Harlequin sqush/squas/squash once, and it was more like a courgette plant than a trailer... delicious chestnutty taste too. Why haven't I grown that again? I'm sold! Off to buy seeds now.

Ta SP - we just don't have the space even for anything vertical. My last bit I could use would be the roof of the shed (a flat roof) but I don't fancy trying to water etc up there.

I grew Wee Be Little this year (thanks Nicos). Neat compact plants that should be fine in a container and lovely little mini Pumpkins almost too pretty to eat, each one probably a single serving. Haven't eaten them yet so can't comment on the taste.

All the squash I've tried seem to vines rather than bush - are there many winter squash bushes?

SP - are you thinking of Jack Be Little - small individual sized pumpkins - this is a vining squash although a vine full of these tiny pumpkins small enough to fit in your hand would make great Halloween decorations.

I'm trying small sugar pumpkin and patty pan squash next year in pots - I dont have vertical space either. I think I have eleventy million patty pan seeds if you want to try some?

I havent ever tasted them, although I'm sure craftymarie (I think?!) grows them and likes them

You cheeky moo Vix - I do, on rare occaisions put a serious post in about fruit or veggies.

Talking about vertical spaces I was eyeing up the apple tree this morning and trying to decide whether I could get a plant to grow up it (with help of course). It's not a very big tree, only about 6ft high but it does get a decent leaf canopy.

Do the fruits need the sun or just the base plant?

I think the fruit would ripen better if they had a little sunshine. It might be worth a try though

I think both Honey Bear F1 and Gold/Golden Nugget would be worth considering for compact plants with smaller fruits.
