I've had these sitting around since the beginning of the year but did nothing with them.

They won't grow much at this time of year, but might put on a bit of growth if you're in the south before it gets properly cold. If it's going to freeze might be an idea to give them some protection as they're little.
With a bit of luck they'll grow a bit more in spring & you might get "baby" leeks before they bolt.

I agree with all the above - shove them in, keep an eye on the weather and if push comes to shove eat them as pring onions.I have not failed. I've just found 10,000 ways that won't work. Thomas A. Edison
