Very small Nero kale again

I did sow them much earlier this year but the result was still the same.

It definitely looks like something has been eating the bottom leaves, maybe slugs or cabbage white if you don't think birds. Netting that doesn't touch the plant will keep off the catapillers.

CN grows up so its best to keep harvest the lower leaves first. You will end up with something that looks like a walking stick. I send to grow more than I need early and harvest the thinnings to leave the main plants alone.

They seem to love my heavy clay. Maybe the raise bed is a little too loose and dry. Adding in some well rotted manure might help?
