This has probably already been answered but how well do chilies do from rooting cuttings? I've spent a fortune on a couple of seedlings (£2.50 each) and I'm thinking I might try to take cuttings - if only for overwintering.

Rookie mistake not labelling your seedlings , don't worry about it there's quite a few seasoned growers that still forget to label.
You will find out soon enough which is which, when the chillies start to grow.
This time next year you'll be growing loads of chillies because you will soon become addicted like the rest of us
I currently have 18 growing in my little propagator, which is much more than I'd planned! I figured most wouldn't grow so I planted extra, and now I have too many. I'm sure I'll manage to kill a few off before I get any chillis though, so having extra is probably good

Some pics from this morning - the main thing they show is how widespread the aphid infestation is.
First Reaper pod forming - looks promising???
Plenty more coming
A whopper of a cayenne, on the overwintered plant I kept saying I'm going to throw out. It's got a stay of execution at least until these ripen.
This was the same cayenne plant on 17 February

A few more, of the scotch bonnet persuasion...
This overwintered plant I dubbed "NotScotch" last year, because all the fruits it produced were pointed at the bottom and don't look at all like a scotch bonnet. However, one of its branches this year is forming fruit which is more lobed and squat, which is interesting. Does this mean it is a scotch bonnet after all? The fruits are red when ripe.
N.B. They're not as big as they look in this photo!
Finally, first fruits forming on what is supposed to be a SB MoA plant. They don't look all that bonnet-like, although they are still very small. The largest one feels very rough and knobbly to the touch.
Lots more flowers

I have some 8 year old (at least) rooting powder and was going to try that on a Bhut and a Choc Hab - maybe one or two others. Did manage to overwinter a hot lemon this winter.
So - cuttings are a bit of a challenge - I'll give it a go on a few varieties see if I can get anywhere...sigpic
