    • My reaper plants are these. Any idea what they actually are? Tasted this, was very much like a normal pepper rather than a chilli

Probably cayenne type, wouldn't know exactly. the heat should increase as it ripens.

          • My grow is steady but not spectacular, although the Sugar Rush which has been outside for two months has just decided it's going to be prolific:

Some recent harvests... N.B. I know someone asked for people to name the varieties when posting pics but to be honest I find it difficult to see the difference between the Superchilli, Chenzo, Gusto Purple and Aji Omnicolor when they're all red. So I've just called them "small reds" and you'll have to be content with that.

4 July: Small reds, Golden Cayenne, Aji Melocoton, Choc Habanero (tiny), Bahamian Goat (the small orange one), Scotch Bonnet MoA (yellow), Market Scotch Bonnets.

16 July: Peter Pepper, Aleppo, small reds.

23 July: Small reds, Golden & Red Cayennes, Aji Melocoton, Scotch Bonnet MoA, Peter peppers, Aji Omnicolor, NotScotch (tiny.)

            • Not posted for a while. My jalpenos having been picking millions. Attempted to make a sauce but it was awful. My teenager son ate a jalpenos raw in one bite and he said it was like eating a pepper no hot flavour. The one he tried was in fridge which I have now read when picked don't put in fridge as lose its flavour.
My red cherry cherry chilli peppers are growing but not picked as not ripened. I have tidied the plant up and hoping to get more sunlight on it when the sun next shows up.

How disappointing! I've not grown jalapenos myself but I know they're normally picked green. Do you pick them as soon as they reach harvestable size, or let them mature for a few weeks? Would it be worth leaving them on the plant a bit longer until they are on the verge of going red to see if they get more heat at that stage?

                • Been shopping

Found some chilli plants L-R Apache, 2x fiesta , 2 Cayenne

Question is shall I repot them all on bigger. Middle ones very pot bound in 1L ? Pots now.
Apache is in 3L ?and quite rooty, Cayenne in 2L and pretty well rooty too.
If so how much bigger shall I go and should I pop some food in at same time or liquid feed after.Click image for larger version

                  • If the roots are growing through the bottom of the pots, pot them on.
                    They look very healthy.

And when your back stops aching,
And your hands begin to harden.
You will find yourself a partner,
In the glory of the garden.

                          • Re compost
As I hadn't started growing toms or chillis I havnt any tomato bags/veg compost bags in.
                            I have miracle grow one
JI which I'm using for seedlings etc
Last yrs runner beans compost and other tubs compost from last yr

Can I use any of those to pot on chillis or is that bit risky ..should I go get what I normally use?
                            Thanks

Is the miracle grow one a multi-purpose compost? I think that would be the best. JI tends to be a bit heavy for chillies.
