After 2 attempts of trying to germinate still no joy.
I will keep to just my 3 varieties.

Don't know how all you others have the patience for all your varieties.

I will concentrate on my other 3 and maybe try another variety in the near future.
I have given up on the Bhut Jolokia after 2 attempts. Am currently on my 3rd and last attempt with Purple Peach; in fact I'm almost hoping they don't germinate this time because I've already got an Elysium Oxide (thanks Chris11!) germinated to replace it on the grow list. I don't really like giving up but it seems sensible to stick to what works.

    • I have decided to leave them all under the grow light garden as my experiment of moving them down to kitchen window seal weekly hasn't made much difference.

The jalepnos and red cherries are growing at a slower rate than the frigs this may be cause they are not so hotter who knows!!

I've watered them on Monday and today tut tut I know but now going to forget about them well until some time next week anyway.

I need take a pic bit file wouldn't upload; (

      • One of the Sugar Rush seeds I sowed on 30/12 is looping today. Four weeks / 28 days. Another sown the same time took 8 days. Crazy!

        • hi all good news i`ve patched up my hydro res and so far its holding and there are no leaks ,im having trouble getting the seeds to germinate in the jiffy pellets so im going to try and get them to germinate in soil and get them into a jiffy pellet as soon as they come up ,i have got one in the hydro unit now (a long slim cayenne i think) and the hydro unit is busy doing its thing ,the ph is 6 and i am using a half strength nuitrient solution also i have now potted on all my other chillis into pots (28 out of the 38 came up) and they are now sitting under a 125 wht cfl and reflector ,i`ll try and get some photos for you all soon ,cheers

          • 28 out of 38 seems pretty good to me. I don't understand the details of the hydro stuff but hopefully you will get really good crops from it.

            • yes im pleased with that and most of the ones that didnt germinate were the ones in the jiffy pellets and that was a moisture problem as they hold alot of water in and inside my super 7 prop which is quiet small too much water built up and it rotted them , hydro doenst look that hard (he says not really knowing what he`s doing) my set up is a plant suspended just above 60 liters of water and the roots come down into the water with some feed in which also has an air pump in that oxygenates the water

I'm having good success with my Jiffy pellets although that's mainly with germinating the seeds on damp kitchen roll then transferring to a Jiffy when they start to sprout. I have sown some direct into the Jiffys but that was very fresh seed that I expected to germinate quickly. The man in the shop where I bought the peat ones said to soak them in warm water until they reach maximum size, then squeeze out most of the water, then reshape them gently to "fluff up" the peat.

The coir ones don't get anywhere near as soggy as the peat ones but by the same token they dry out extremely quickly and the seedlings don't seem to thrive as well in them. I think there's more "goodness" in the peat ones and I should be feeding the ones in coir as soon as they start to grow, but I haven't done.

                • The sweet peppers (California Wonder) i sowed a week ago today as a "germination experiment" are starting to show themselves i noticed just now when i checked. Should i whip them off the heat once they have their seed leaves? Put them onto the window sill?

                        • Got a T5 this Christmas, chillies are coming along nicely.... Three didn't germinate (2 scorpions and one ghost) so thinking of replacing those with maybe a wild type.

Just be careful of the change in temperature.. You could try them on a heat mat either on a window sill.

They need light as soon as they are up, but they won't want to be too cold either. If the windowsill is warm enough, they'll be fine (maybe move them back at night?)
