Chillies - growing and overwintering 2017

Thought I haven't contributed in here for a while so put some pics together so you can see how im getting on, all the plants are looking great this year and got literally thousands of buds/flowers and a lot of pods already, the pictures dont do it justice really as it all blends into the green foliage but its easily my best growing season so far

Its this years plant. Potted it up the same as all the others.

I always tickle the flowers but its not pollinating im stumped on, its why these 2 plants are small. Does nipping early flowers off have an affect on the size of the plant?

Did those early flowers form pods? I think if you let them form pods when the plants are still small then they put their energy into the pods and not into growing the plant. They have less leaves to photosynthesise and therefore less energy than a bigger plant. So pinching out the flowers should, in theory, let the plant concentrate on growing before it has to worry about fruiting.

What on earth are the mushroom-shaped ones top right? They look amazing. Any seeds going spare?

I have two overwintered Jalapeno plants that have just started to leaf up now. They have just been a couple of stick up til now. I wonder whether day length has much to do with growth

They are called cherry red, or cherry bombs from memory, yes will have plenty of seed.. send me your address in a message and soon as theyre collected and dried il send you some out mate

This may be my last "show off" harvest of chinenses - there's one more NotScotch pod and a couple of Elysium Oxides to come in the near future, plus lots more Paper Lanterns, then I'm waiting on the MoAs which are only just setting pods, and the Purple Peach which are still small and insignificant, and then there's nothing else coming along.

Yeah they did i think. What you said makes sense. I'll try and snip more flowers off next year.

Here are my first ripe chillies of the year anyway. Long slim cayenne...



Gunna blend the two that are ripe with a couple of tomatoes tomorrow and cook a chicken breast and veg in the sauce.

Oh and yes i can see the aphids. The little buggers are keeping me busy squashing them and spraying them with water and washing up liquid.

I have loads of fruit on my Apache and Basket of Fire Chilli plants but so far they are all green with no sign of them turning red yet...is there still time?
