  • Mine probably won't look quite as tidy, because they will probably be made out of high tensile fencing wire. Another winter job, sat making lots of different sized rings!
Out of interest where did you get yours from? Just in case my plan doesn't work.
I bought the rings - maybe ten of one size, and a couple of larger ones - and couplings from an independent garden centre an hour or so from me (a LONG way down from you though SP ); think they were on special so I got a few as I was looking for that exact thing anyway. They don't seem to be that widely available ie. just the plastic coated ring, whereas everywhere sells a version of a complete wire support frame.

    Rings look like this:
    https://www.amazon.co.uk/Botanico-38cm-Round-Support-Ring/dp/B00EOSGBOS/ref=sr_1_9?ie=UTF8&qid=1503783733&sr=8-9&keywords=botanico+plant+supports
Couplings like this (not these exactly but close enough):
    http://www.bosworthsonline.co.uk/peacock-standard-7mm-couplers-multi-pack-of-4.html

Another idea was to use the frame of an old lampshade, or perhaps just to source the lampmaking components e.g. buy a job lot of metal rings. Depends how concerned you are with the aesthetics of your creations I suppose!

That is the very controversial ( if you follow all the b1tching and other nonsense that goes on in the chilli world ) dragons breath. I don't care if it is or isn't the hottest in the world. I just like the name.
Just looked that one up; didn't realise Reaper had been dethroned already (well, given a nudge anyway). Wow, they're tiny pods...
Is the plant smothered from top to bottom yet or just patches on random leaves?

    • Thanks for the links Philthy

Dragons breath isn't completely smothered. I think if I had a spare hour I could get on top of the little blighters. It's just finding that spare hour! I will, I have to! He cost me a small fortune ( in chilli plug plant terms anyway ) and he's ear marked for over wintering.

      • Having just read this thread through from start to finish which took a good few hours!

Can honestly say there are a good few bits of advice, tips n pointers which I will be gladly taking on board for next year!

        Yeah! already planning!

This year, although not a complete "Washout" and more than happy with what I am getting, but realistically I just toyed n tickled with it this year all things considered!

The "Nigel's Outdoor" as far superseded my expectations and defoe earmarked for overwintering!

        So in summary!

        January sowings! on heat

        Pot on to 3inch

Then bang in final position with a little "Chicken Poop"

"Chilli Grow's" are the way to go, so shall be investing in them, and a proper "Poly" is on my "Wish list" too!

        • It's wonderful to se everyone's plants coming on so well. Mine at home are completely neglected as I haven't really had any time at home the last few weeks. So everyone keep showing your pods and plants so I can get my dose of chilli porn!

          • A question, when do we repot the chillies, is it after their winter rest or when the fruits have all been picked?

I usually do both because my plants for over winter have to downsized. Personally I'd say the one after the winter rest is more important.

Picking your brains a little here!

When you invested in your "Chillie Grow" did it come with the free feed, and if so, did you use it? Was it any good?

Just the man I wanted to talk to about chilli grow!
The company that sells them ( you know the one right? ) have 10% off everything till midnight Tuesday. The code you need is plastered all over the website

Yes the chilli grow comes with some free feed ( nutrigrow ) and it's brilliant stuff, well I think so. And it doesn't work out any more expensive than chilli focus (other chilli feeds are available....I think)
I think I got my chilli grow around this time last year and it came with enough feed till the end of the season and the start of this one.

I can't remember if it tells you on their website or just in the instructions when your chilli grow arrives. But you need perlite to mix with you compost and it's quite a lot. Think it's 25%. And you don't need to add any chicken manure pellets to the compost in your chilli grow if you're using their feed.
                    Hope I've helped Deano

Not put the company name. Didn't want to be accused of advertising

To take advantage of the discount!

It's alright certain people classing us as "Chillie Heads! (Baldy) to mention no names! I neither have money or sense either!

I expect photos of everything when it turns up Deano.
I'm going to be stocking up on feed refills

                          • Looks like I won't be taking advantage of the 10% off deal from greenhouse sensations ( definitely not advertising the money grabbing bar stewards , naming and shaming them )
For 3 nutrigrow refills they want £15.95 delivery . You'll be OK Deano because you don't live north of the boarder. (royal Mail still ....ing works up here you know )

( VC there's another company that needs scaring )

Have you picked any ripe pods off of it yet? (and have you dared try any...)??

That's a decent sized plant and especially so for a superhot, plus it looks to be a good shape. If you can find the time I think you should invest it in that one as you've got it this far. I'd want to keep it going if I'd grown it
As a stopgap maybe just concentrate on snipping off all lower leaves that are badly infested and/or yellowed, then using a dry soft brush of say 1" width gently brush off some of the worse affected leaves midway up, and ignore what's going on up top in terms off manual removal, as you'll probably want to prune all that growth off in a couple of weeks time anyway ready to overwinter. Then spray the plant all over with whatever you know to be halfway effective, and isolate the plant more from it's neighbours when it goes back. Maybe spray the pallet and ground in that corner as well. Give it a feed; a level teaspoon of BFB evenly distributed on the soil surface and mixed in looks about right for a plant that size.
Buys some time while you consider it's fate but shouldn't take up too much of yours.

No pods on him yet just flowers. It's been advised that you don't eat them! If the suggested heat levels are true, then the chilli is more likely to be used for medical treatment ( pain numbing type thing I think ) than eating. But I can send you a pod if you fancy giving it a go
I'm trying to work out how to separate him. He's in a chilli grow which has a 3 pot system. Obviously he's got to come out of there for overwintering but I should have another month of growing ( fingers crossed & pray to every known God in the universe! ) out of him yet before I need to do that. Even though me and the suppliers of chilli grow & its nutrigrow feed are having a trial separation ( long story, see my previous post! ). The nutrigrow feed is fantastic stuff and you get cracking results from it. So I'd like the dragons breath ( also known as Norbert by the way ) to stay in there for as long as possible.
Thanks for the advice on cleaning him up, I wasn't really sure where to start.
