Excuse me Please
I'm a 'Newbie' here as I'm sure your all aware.
I'm very interested in growing Chillies and have tried to read this thread from the beginning but Alas ,due to the sheer size and a slow laptop , Ive not managed to wade from beginning to end !!
I grew Chillie's for the first time this/last year 2017 . Some jalepeno ,Hibenero and a 'Basket of Fire' ex Suttons seeds. 8 plants survived from my 12 sown.
The'yve all grown really well and born much fruit,( more by luck than judgement I may add).
Now I'm thinking I cant expect to be this lucky forever, so I better research the art.
Ive found this thread very interesting and hoping some of you will spare the time to help me get on the right track.
Ive seen about 'Overwintering' but how or what do I do to prepare my now fruit bearing and healthy looking plants to go thro the winter.
I would happily put photos on but sadly I'm not very good at 'Techy' things o here again help would be appreciated.Last edited by Scarlet; 05-10-2017, 11:26 PM.Never Let the BAD be the Enemy of the GOOD

Habs for me overwinter very well, if you have a room that has a consistant temp with reasonable light you may find it will carry on fruiting slowly upto Xmas, just drop a few leaves and start again in Feb. If some branches die back, just give it a light prune.
Can you post a few more times a d then try uploading pics? What are you using? Computer or a phone/tablet?

Very much worth trying to keep some chillies over winter if you can.

I am in a similar position. My Only Chocolate Habanero is just coming into flower now. It took a very long time to germinate and is in my porch with mix of Scotch Bonnet, Jalapeno and Ring of Fire plants say 8 in total. All doing very well
I was going to cut them back and try the overwinter thing (1 plant of each variety). But with the Chocolate Habanero now coming into flower, perhaps more light may it going.
What sort of light do you need. Warm Light from an LED bulb, or brighter hotter light from a Halogen Spot?
Will still cut back other plants.

I have picked a few chillies in the last few weeks but not photographed them. Today I picked what may well be my last decent harvest. Sorry for the distracting patterned background.
Top row L-R: Sugar Rush, Aji Omnicolor, Aji Pineapple
Middle: Superchilli, Paper Lantern, Sugar Rush, Purple Peach (possibly CGN21500), SB MoA, Etna
Bottom: Aleppo, Chenzo, Cayenne (Golden + 1 red)
I have virtually nothing else to come indoors. There are still quite a lot of unripe pods outdoors but the temperatures have dropped so much that it's hard to imagine they will ripen. I haven't been to my mum's for a while so I don't know if there's anything there, but if any pods have turned red then the neighbour will probably have had them away.
