Never grown hanging basket toms before, but as "Cadalot" as awarded me with a few 100's n 1000's and some Tumbling Tom Red, I'll happily give it a bash n play along!

Happy to join in. I usually grow Garden Pearl this year I also grew Red Robin which did very well. I'm still sorting out from the tomato seed swap before I can work out what to grow, my plan is to grow some "high up" in the "wasted space" above French Beans and Courgettes but I'll see.

Mark! Your not the only one now confused as to what to grow this coming year now being faced with so much choice, have grown "Garden Pearl" for many years, to good effect too, and rate them "Wholeheartedly" But would describe em as a bush rather than a "Tumbler"

We had Tumbling Tom yellow this year in 16 hanging baskets and they were a bit late to get going but when they they were plentiful and absolutely fantastic flavout.
I have not failed. I've just found 10,000 ways that won't work. Thomas A. Edison

I'll be growing tumbling tom red and maskotka. Started my tumbling tom in may last year so a lot of the fruit didn't get a chance to ripen. Totally my fault I forgot I had them. The Maskotka wasn't very good at all. A lot of the fruit rotted on the one plant I had but I shall give it another go this coming year.

Strange, I have tried to grow Garden Pearl in pots as a bush and have found all efforts to prevent them from trailing on the floor have failed. This is an example from 2015, with 2 Garden Pearl plants in the front 2 pots:

Nice tomatoes, but I find that the foliage and fruit that ends up underneath tends to rot. They would probably be better in a basket where they had more air from underneath, but I don't have anywhere suitable to hang a basket.

That's exactly how mine grow and I end up putting them on a bench in the polytunnel and letting them dangle down. My plan this year was to make "hanging pots" and support them from the polytunnel brackets to see if it works. (This is partially because in 2016 I reduced the number of plants in the polytunnel because one can only eat so many tomatoes but I was left with what I felt was "wasted space" over the top of the French Beans and Courgettes which I am planning to fill with aerial strawberries and tomatoes).
