Don't say that Sara, I haven't even prepared the bed yet!
Last year I sowed on the 8th May and they were fine, will be 2 weeks before I can get mine done because of family commitments..

        • 3 varieties of beetroot - had no success with this last year so trying again! I'm not a quitter
2 varieties of radish - only ever tried the very long mooli ones which were great, these are tiny globe ones.
LOVE growing food to eat in my little town back garden. Winter update: currently growing overwintering onions, carrots, lettuce, chard, salad leaves, kale, cabbage, radish, beetroot, garlic, broccoli raab, some herbs.

          • Finally got some seeds in pots

Orach, Huauzontle, basil, coriander, spring onions & second lot of frigatello sweet peppers as some b***** snipped the top off the first lot and left them lying in the pot
            Another happy Nutter...

              • Last year my neighbour carefully sowed things like beetroot, carrot, turnip, cabbage etc in rows. He didn't tell his wife though, or label them, so she raked the bed ready for sowing......

They had a real pick and mix veg patch last year

                    • Watched the Beechgrove garden program a while ago and Jim McColl was potting on seedlings. Made a point of telling one not to firm the compost to much for sowing etc. Now I have the problem of having to throw out loads of good seedlings as there is no room left. Could never get the Lobelia to grow. This season I have had that much that all the neighbours have now loads.
Just shows what a difference small things can make.

                            • Sowed 2nd batch of Sundance F1 sweetcorn. They did well for me last year.

No germination from 1st batch of seed kernels, so I'm not optimistic. I don't think sweet corn stays viable as long as seeds like tomato, chilli or courgette.

                              • ^^^^ I chitted my year old sweetcorn in wet bog roll - got about 90% germination - was quite impressed compared to rates I was getting when sowing into compost. I've now stuck them in to compost in paper pots so the % will doubtless return to previously seen levels - 70% (or sow )
