I always start beans in modules and plant out when they're sturdy enough.
Possibly, I've already got plans for all of the surrounding squares. I've got Cucumbers going into two (one plant each), that might work as the beans should be done by the time cucumbers are ready to plant out shouldn't they?

    • Probably!
If the beans you've sown direct fail or you have poor germination, you could move the best ones in with the good ones. There's plenty of time before you need to think about cucumbers.

I sowed beans this year just to fix nitrogen and was convinced they'd be done by the time my indeterminate tomatoes were ready to plant out. I was wrong.

I also find that beans take up a fair bit more space than is allowed in SFG guides.
