What I did today - 2017

Just finished cleaning the pond dustbin filter..........what a mess but it's done..........time to think about a bite to eat me thinks.

Nowt done today, done it all yesterday after work,so day off,and a beautifull day it's been. Watering tomorrow.

Veg patch

Raised sleepers surrounding veg patch as with all the manure put on the plot and dug in the ground was level with the top of the sleepers.

Continued clearing out the 12x10 GH. This one doesn't get much sun in winter so becomes a seed sowing/potting up station - in other words its full of odd pots and trays, bags of compost and dead plants.
I can walk down the middle now without tripping over junk so its nearly finished and ready for summer.

Cleaned out the greenhouse, not as bad as I thought, only one freakishly big spider hiding in some egg trays amongst some freaky spuds that never got planted last year.
Mowed the lawn.
At the plot I pricked out some Cavolo Nero and Fizz kale, and some cabbages.

Yesterday - not a lot as I kept stopping to watch honey bees and butterflies

Laid more cardboard and chopped some more leylandii. Ordered a new fire bin (hopefully it will last longer than the other two.

Yesterday potted on tomatoes. Did a pretty good rationalisation of them too, but there are still lots!

Planted the potatoes - I ordered more than I intended to - there should be plenty of spuds this year! Cleared out the glass shed and prepped cucumber beds. Forked over the bed in front of the shed and then was driven out when one of the lads lit a bonfire .... I had to wash my hair again, lest the delightfully feminine aroma of woodsmoke pervade the whole cinema! Still, achieved quite a bit, feeling moderately smug

I planted out 5 new strawberry plants on one side of my raised bed near some garlic

I didn't do much today as it's so warm outside!

Harvested a few radish and salad leaves from my covered salad bed and got the last of my main crop potatoes in down at the allotment.

Potted on more Tom's into the plot GH. Potted up some chilies too. Sowed some radish.
Tried to figure out where / if parsnips and carrots will go. Setup a few pallets to use for placing out seed trays - hoping the height will help deter the slugs... Sitting in the bath having overdone it again...

Spent the day trying to pick "Growmore" out of my cucumbers in pots.

They nearly died with the heat, (drooping leaves) And I think they had too much nitrogen.

My first real year trying to use fertiliser and was over keen!

Today I played golf. Lovely day for it down here! Then I came home and watered stuff. We have no rain forecast for at least a week and everything's already getting very dry, so I'm going to have to focus on watering for a while.

Tomorrow will be ten degrees colder than today, apparently.

Potted on chillis.
Sowed more tomatoes, different variety I decided to try. Kumato, Dubrava, Cosmonaut Volkov,Moskvich and Nyagous.
All very old seed but some may come through.
