Hardening off white cabbage and Romanesque(sp) and re sowed Crimson Crush tomatoes as the first haven't germinated, some might think I'm a tad late, but as we are forecast snow and frosts next week, I will probably be bringing stuff back in to the conservatory never mind planting anything out.

Sympathy from me to bramble.
All I managed today was to empty a few pots and put 2 barrow loads of spent compost on the flower bed between us and next door. Soil is awful there - clay mixed with large stones - soggy and claggy. Old compost will hopefully open it up a bit.Another happy Nutter...

Had a bonfire first thing, a bit of breakfast...........potted up some CFB's & placed them in the poly till they are ready to go out. Planted some more King Teds in gaps that were appearing. Just had lunch now ready for some footy.................c'mon you Whites & c'mon you Terriers....................sigpic“Gorillas are very intelligent, but they don't have to be as delicate as chimps -- they can just smash open the termite nest,”

Allotment Committee Meeting, whilst waiting started on the extension to the shed
later went to the other allotment to get a couple of tools for eldest Daughters significant other to borrow, dropped off the gallows brackets, but could not help but assemble one and temporary cable tie it to the hanging basket brackets to look at. Me thinks they need to come down about a foot.

Two bean trenches dug out and filled with semi-composted material. Bean frames erected.
Compost bins at home emptied / fiilled - no sign of Ratus Ratus thankfully (I did consider going in with my work trousers elastic-banded at the bottoms but decided not to be a wuss )
Lots of potting on done. More soil removed from the site of the new pond.
One of my Fat Babies was' carefully carried in an MFB to the plot - but the MFB split as I was putting it in the GH and the Fat Baby crashed onto the concrete slabs - think she'll be ok. Gave her a good soaking when I put her back in the MFB.
Potted up some strawberries to sell at the May Fair - we're not going to have much to sell I'm thinking...
Got a bit of sunburn - been lovely weather here today.sigpic
1574 gin and tonics please Monica, large ones.

Nipped down to the plot to check on the bees (which are behaving themselves for once, no signs of sneaky swarming), watered everything and finally planted out the peas, finally freeing up the roottrainers after being unable to get to the plot all week due to covering for a sick person at work. Resowed some flower seeds, gulped at the height of the grass and went home. Then realised I'd forgotten to bring the blasted empty roottrainers back.
Nipped back again to get the daft things, and planted them full o'beans, french and runner. Also potted up some tomatoes, pricked out a lot of salad, sowed some more cucumbers because I got only one plant from the last sowing. Went to get some more compost 'cos I'm running out, but they didn't have the bags I was after in stock, so I was forced to buy chips from the chippy three doors down instead.

Slightly to my surprise after years of procrastination, I planted a grape vine (Chardonnay). I have slightly troublesome heavy soil so dug a pit which was then filled with a mix of limestone gravel, compost and the original soil. A second (Flame) will be planted shortly.
The vine was bought from the Victoriana Nursery, for £12.95.

Put together a raised bed 3mX1mX0.3m. Just finished emptying 5 old large tomato grow bags into it. Compost wet and very heavy. 3 frogs hiding in one made me jump.
Will finish off with garden compost and some turves taken up last year.Riddlesdown (S Croydon)

Flattened and laid down a couple of cardboard boxes under my fruit bushes. Added and dug in some chicken manure pellets to a couple of barrels that'll have courgettes in eventually. Planted out a tray of Spring onions. Watered everything that needed it. Added another two roof tiles to my asparagus bed edging. Potted up a load of seedlings for the allotment plant sale. All in the space of two hours!He-Pep!
