Nothing sowed or potted on etc, but lots of weeding and hoeing & one of the beds now covered in cardboard with woodchip paths from the weeping willow at FiL's house OH hacked back. Rain now happily soaking into the cardboard so hopefully less weeding this year. One patch left clear to direct sow carrots and root parsley.
Popped into the plot on the way home with my hoe in hand, no weeds observed! Strawberries looked a lot happier after their recent move, sent a mail from freecycle for a compost bin and two black bins.. im gearing up for leaves later in the year to make my own leaf mould, and also mailed a guy on gumtree for a free greenhouse.. I keep chipping away daily
Cleared one of the GH beds of overwintered salad leaves and pots of carrots.
Filled the space with 10 tomatoes.
Lost count already of how many tommy plants I'm growing
Planted up all my window boxes today. Planted out more mixed salad leaves. Sowed cucumber seeds. Potted on the last of my tomato plants. Potted up my dahlia plants sown from seed. Put in more supports for the sweet peas. Did some weeding around the garlic and spring onions. Watered everything that was dry as we had a very sunny dry day.
And then my daughter and grandaughter called in and that ended the gardening day.

And your hands begin to harden.
You will find yourself a partner,

Planted out some beetroot grown in modules. Watered the greenhouse (or the plants in there anyway). Took my lawn clippings to the plot for the compost heap, prepared the bed for salad veg, strimmed all the paths and cut down rubbish around the edges, topped up the compost bin, tidied up, weeded. Nothing especially exciting but all those jobs that make a difference. Erecting bean poles next time!!
Topped up the Munty House beds with well rotted hoss muck, cleared all the leaves off the Asparagus bed as there was no show, the crowns were bone dry so gave them a soaking then covered them with some hoss muck...........planted a couple of Zuccini's out that had started flowering with a polythene windbreak in front of them, fed George & the young 'uns, took some Calendar photos before the rain arrived.

Onions are out! The soil's bone dry to over a spit down & has had 4 cans of water added. There's even netting on top to stop the birds pulling them up or the cat rolling on them. Must remember spiky twigs when the netting comes off.
Gave the dwarf mulberry some roomier quarters and a feed and generally pottered about feeling very pleased with myself. Removed some opportunistic slugs from the greenhouse. Rhubarb brought home to make some vodka with and the leaf chicory for filling pittas/piadina, depending on the level of faff I want to go to. (pittas are in the freezer, piadina need making)
Got to the plot and started on the muck store that I'm building with one of my plot neighbours. Three of us are in a row but our mate who has the middle plot has been poorly so we're helping him out. We're expecting a delivery of manure from a local farmer shortly (a load is massive) so we've made a bay at the front of the middle plot with our mates consent to accommodate it and will share it between us.
Lifted the remains of last year's carrots, enough to make a couple of litres of decent soup, and cleared the bed. Also weeded last year's parsnip bed ready for this year's sweetcorn.
Took a couple of pics, the developing flower meadow and my polytunnel spuds in flower, will try to add them as an edit, can't do it in the bath
Came home, drank beer, sowed some seeds had roast dinner, good day..
Digging digging and more digging - with very minimal progress. Feels rather like slave labour, but the dug soil is looking lovely so it will sooo be worth it in the end. I just hope the end is in time for me to get stuff planted out!!
Two days down south with work and then a 4 day weekend to crack on
Yesterday I planted up 2 1/2 beds and the polytunnel bed. Direct sown 4 varieties of Spring onion. Realised I've grown far to much stuff this year! Already got enough veg to fill my Overflo bed and that's not including any of my sales plants that don't sell ( I like to leave a bit of space for them, don't like them being wasted ). Put my newly improved sales barrow out and got my first customer (I normally leave them to it, but she seemed to be struggling with the lid, so went to offer my assistance) was from Kent. Apparently she's a repeat customer, she brought plants last year when she was up here on holiday.
My plants are well traveled, how cool is that
I must I have to go drink prosecco this lunch time
No grand-daughter today so making excellent progress! Planted some more beetroot and climbing frenchies in modules, potted on tomatoes, went to a well known DIY store and bought growbags for tomatoes and cucumbers to move on into (I put the contents of a growbag into a big pot with some well rotted manure and compost - my own SusieQ No 1 mix). Now going out to lunch - back later for more potting on.
Today I have swooped on a freecycle greenhouse, after many long hours refreshing the page I managed to finally get one! I have arranged collection for tomorrow after work, I am going collecting a compost bin and two black bins today to keep for autumn to make my own leaf mould... so not much has physically happened but plenty that will aid my chillies this summer to get them in the greenhouse
