after much procrastination and lack of opportunity I managed to get the weeding done, all around my strawberries and brassicas is lovely and weed free (until tomorow at least) I managed to let it get a bit untidy and been meaning to get it sorted for a couple of weeks, also managed to tidy the paths where they meet my beds a bit.
Trained my giant marrow vines and inspected the rest of the plot for pests/problems.
Picked some peas and radish and left the plot feeling accomplished

Cut the grass at my retirement pad in the pouring rain. Even with the box removed and the deflector fitted the lawnmower was still choking up.
Weeded the border at the front of the house, clipped back the cineraria maritima silverdust and interplanted with some yellow snapdragons and red salvias I got reduced from Homebase for a squid a punnet! Clipped back a wayward fuschia preventting mer getting in the front door.
At the allotment i really picked a good time to dry my onions off out doors didn't I!My Majesty made for him a garden anew in order

Barrowed and spread more woodchip on the pup's playground and the path. About three quarters of the pile remains. Covered it with old builder's bags in case it rains tonight.
All being well, I'll start on the main path down to the end of the garden tomorrow.
Emptied a tatty bucket and had a decent haul of spuds, picked mangetout, raspberries and strawberries and watched the longtailed tits in the plum tree. I don't know what they were eating but they seemed to enjoy it! Just seeing them makes me smile - like flying lollipops

Fed and watered the tomatoes, chillis and cucs in the greenhouse.
Deadheaded the sweetpeas and patunias.
Picked a dish of strawberries.
Picked 3 Shirley tomatoes and a few tumbler toms.
Picked some chilli peppers.
And when your back stops aching,
And your hands begin to harden.
You will find yourself a partner,
In the glory of the garden.

Late entry for yesterday..
I have staked all the toms and chillies now they have grown again and they are all nice and stable and secure again, I have given some sickly looking chilli plants a dose of epsom salts to perk them up and also fed the rest of them with my pepper feed, they are all thriving at the moment and will be nice to have a couple of days rain on them now.
I have also been growing an apache chilli in a smaller pot for my daughters teacher as we did a chilli trade two years ago when he was teaching my eldest girl, he gave me a jalapeno plant for a habenero so this year I just gifted him one.
Pinched out the toms and gave them a feed, took off a couple of minimal greenfly but better to keep on top of them it's a very enjoyable experience growing your own once all the digging and graft is done at the begginning of the year

Quick trip to the plot this morning before work - cleared up the resulting armageddon from using slug pellets on my raised beds. I hate using them but every now and again I feel I have to wipe out a generation of slugs and snails to give my crops a fighting chance. Pulled up a few bolted onions and beetroot, weeded a bit and sowed a final row of beetroot.
Planted out four anaemic looking savoy cabbages... at least they'll have a chance in the ground rather than languishing in a seed tray.
Moved some binbags full of compost material to throw down some cardboard, and spotted what was either a newt or a lizard hiding amongst them - put the binbags back carefully.
Misted the aubergines and watered the basket toms.He-Pep!

More woodchip barrowing - this time I started at the far end of the garden (almost) and worked back towards the house. This way, each barrowload didn't have to be pushed at far as the last one.
I don't often walk from the front of the house to the end of the garden - seemed to be miles apart I am of course exaggerating but after a number of journeys, back and forth, I was exhausted. Must be getting old, but I'll always be younger than rary

Barrowed the rest of the 3.5 tons of wood chip from the front to the back garden and spread it on the "ring road" path. Not quite enough to complete the ring but it looks a lot better for it anyway.
I've discovered muscles I'd forgotten I had - and they ache! Must be getting old
Its raining now so just managed to move it in time.
I've just made some raspberry, strawberry and redcurrant jam - waiting for it to cool enough to jar up.
Feeling very domesticated for a change
